What's the appropriate size of steel balls for a ball mill?

[2025-10-29 15:14:41]

The size of steel balls in a ball mill depends on two factors: the physical and mechanical properties of the ore and its particle size composition. Below are some key considerations for loading steel balls into a ball mill.

1. Processing hard, coarse-grained ores requires greater impact force, so larger steel balls are required. Processing softer ores with smaller feed sizes and requiring finer product sizes requires grinding, so smaller steel balls can be used.

2. Production-site ball mills are loaded with balls of various diameters, mixed in specific proportions to process materials with varying particle sizes. Theoretically, only by ensuring a specific ratio of various balls can the particle size composition of the material being ground be appropriately matched, achieving optimal grinding results.

In short, ball mill ratio is a complex technical issue. Each mineral processing plant must carefully analyze its specific conditions and, through long-term research and experience, determine the appropriate ball ratio.
