How to perform no-load and load tests on a ball mill?

[2025-10-30 14:47:57]

A no-load test of a ball mill means running it without steel balls or ore. The no-load running time should generally be no less than four hours, and normally 8-16 hours is required. The longer the test time, the better the break-in of the main bearing and gear teeth.

The no-load test should meet the following requirements:

1. Lubrication at all lubrication points is normal, with no oil leaks.

2. The temperature of the mill's main bearing should not exceed 50.

3. The mill runs smoothly, with no abnormal noise from the gear transmission.

4. The ball mill liners and all transmission components are not loose.

5. All parts operate according to maintenance requirements.

After the ball mill has run no-load for the specified time, it can be stopped. Carefully inspect all working parts, tighten the liner bolts, and eliminate any defects found.

After the ball mill runs without problems during no-load operation, a load test can be performed. During load testing, gradually increase the feed until full load is reached. Run for 10-20 hours after normal feeding.

During load operation, the following requirements should be met:

1. Smooth operation without periodic or sudden vibrations.

2. No abnormal fluctuations in the main motor current.

3. Normal lubrication at all lubrication points; main bearing temperature not exceeding 60.

4. No leakage of water or slurry from bolts, flange mating surfaces, or seals in any working part of the mill.
