How to reduce slime in slurry during ball mill operation?

[2025-11-06 11:43:32]

Many people are troubled by excessive slime in their slurry. Too much slime significantly affects the grinding efficiency of the ball mill. Through years of experience solving mineral processing problems for clients, we have accumulated rich experience in dealing with excessive slime. Below is a brief overview of how to address this issue during ball mill operation:

1. Reduce and prevent slime formation: Multi-stage grinding processes and staged mineral processing can be adopted. Proper selection of grinding and classifying equipment is crucial to improve classifier efficiency.

2. Add reagents to eliminate the harmful effects of slime: Commonly used reagents include water glass, soda ash, and caustic soda, which can reduce the flocculation and covering effect of slime. To mitigate the harmful effects of excessive slime adsorption of reagents, staged reagent addition can be considered.

3. Deslim the ground ore before flotation and discard it as tailings. If the slime contains a high content of useful components, the deslimed slime can be treated separately by flotation or by water treatment.

Commonly used desliming methods and equipment include: 1. Classifier desliming; 2. Hydrocyclone desliming; 3. In special cases, a small amount of frother can be added before flotation to remove easily floatable sludge by flotation.
