What is gravity separation?

[2025-12-11 14:24:49]

Gravity separation, also known as mineral processing, is a mineral processing method that separates minerals based on their differences in density. Besides various gravity separation equipment, a medium (air, water/heavy liquid, or heavy suspension) is essential for gravity separation. During the process, mineral particles are subjected to gravity (or primarily centrifugal force in a centrifugal field), the mechanical forces applied by the equipment, and the forces exerted by the medium. This intricate combination of forces causes particles of different densities to move at different speeds and trajectories, ultimately separating them from each other. Gravity separation utilizes the differences in specific gravity and shape between minerals to separate them. Common forms include jigging, shaking table separation, centrifugal separation, heavy media separation, and classification.

According to the movement of the medium and the purpose of the operation, gravity concentration has the following processes: (1) Classification (2) Heavy Media Concentration (3) Jigging (4) Shaking Table Concentration (5) Sluice Box Concentration (6) Spiral Concentration (7) Centrifugal Concentration (8) Air Concentration (9) Washing
